trying to stay cool

we met our friends, louie, alex and shane, today at 6:30 pm. we walked to the hudson river park for a picnic, and then went to the playground so the kids could run through the sprinklers. it was wonderfully refreshing for them after such a HOT day. (i've actually grown accustomed to walking around feeling like i'm in a sauna . . )
yes, you are seeing correctly. m and c are actually throwing the water directly at me. they are SO lucky they didn't get my camera wet. otherwise, all that babysitting money might have gone to a special camera cause . .

um . .

ummm,

finally!

shane said she hadn't been up to the high line yet . . so a visit was obligatory! and we ran into the amateur astronomy club! i forgot that they meet every tuesday evening at 14th street. it's always fun to peek into their telescopes. this evening they were observing saturn's rings . . which never fails to fill me with awe! i enjoyed watching the expression on other peoples' faces as they peered into the eyepiece . . one young woman especially; her face just lit up when she finally saw the rings. you could tell that she had never, ever, viewed saturn's rings before. she was speechless . . with a huge smile.

it was a warm night with nary a cooling breeze. i think the three of them were happy to head back home to their air conditioned apartment (they are in town from california for the summer). and . . i guess we were happy to head home, back to our rather HOT apartment! our poor pets . . they just loll around . . looking very limp.

  1. Makes you wish being a child again - running through the sprinklers! Looks like a great day in spite of the heat.
    The rings of Saturn? Amazing!
P.S. very daring, throwing water at your camera....
