winter solstice

morgan and i had an early lunch at the cafe chanda works at . . they offer a lentil and brussel sprout salad with apples, bacon and vinaigrette . . we shared it and it was so good. i thought the cafe was busy today, but chanda said it was actually slow. the tables were full but there wasn't a lot of turnover (people hang out on their computers). it's a quiet week.

we had a delicious solstice dinner of arctic char, broccoli and wild and brown rice.

the cats are always waiting for more food . . ever hopeful . .

maybe zuzu thinks she'll get to have some of our dessert . . hot chocolate with a few moon cookies.

song 3rd by an old shepherd

when silver snow decks silvio's clothes,
and jewel hangs at shepherd's nose,
we can abide life's pelting storm,
that makes our limbs quake, if our hearts be warm.

whilst virtue is our walking-staff,
and truth a lantern to our path,
we can abide life's pelting storm,
that makes our limbs quake, if our hearts be warm.

blow, boisterous wind, stern winter frown,
innocence is a winter's gown,
so clad, we'll abide life's pelting storm,
that makes our limbs quake, if our hearts be warm.

by william blake (1757-1827)

we also finished decorating the tree . .

of course the cats were in the tree, in the papers and bins, and in the box . . (pluto started to enter the box, but cricket was already there . . which of course pluto wasn't happy about).

and in the hot chocolate.

good night . . happy winter solstice.
