a second thanksgiving meal

morning shenanigans while making the bed . . i was out early for the green market to take the compost and to get apples and eggs . . however, the apple farm and the egg people were not there! i forgot that they were taking the weekend off. i was able to drop off the compost though . . thank goodness as it was a lot of compost. i also visited the butcher for leftover turkey parts for our second thanksgiving meal this evening.

i stopped by to see chanda as she had to work today. she's already missed two weekends and couldn't miss anymore. her throat has been very sore and she has had a recurring fever that is now being kept down with ibuprofen. she's visited an urgent care clinic in her neighborhood that takes our insurance and is on medication for strep, even though both tests they took have been negative. she has an appointment with an ear, nose and throat doctor on monday.

back at home i began working on tonight's feast . .

cricket thinks he's one of the ingredients.

fresh pasture raised turkey . . i bought a whole leg and a chicken breast from our local butcher. we had it with leftover mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples and raisins, cranberries and collard greens.

there was leftover pumpkin pie for dessert . .

the cats look like one long lumpy pillow in the kitchen while greg does some dishes . .

  1. Poor Chanda! I am not a doctor, but have they done a test for Strep C? Veronika had a sore throat last year and the regular strep test for A was negative. But she did test positive for C because they did several tests when they tested her for other bacteria. It is much rarer, but can be transferred from animals to humans. We think she got it at the Genesee Country Village and Museum when being around the animals all the time. She got amoxicillin and was fine. I also had her gargle with grape seed extract. It tastes awful, but works wonders. You only need a drop or two in some water. Most doctors are not familiar with any other kind than A, so it is worthwhile asking for having a test done. Even our pediatrician was very surprised to see her positive result.

    1. Yes, they did two tests so I'm assuming the second was for C but I'll check again with Chanda. She has been on amoxicillin. Thanks for the grape seed extract suggestion! I will look for that.

    2. Grape seed extract is good for many things. You can also disinfect your wooden boards in the kitchen with it.
