zuzu update

 after being monitored all night and receiving fluids, a doctor called us at 10:30 am to say that zuzu needed to go into surgery as the object hadn't moved. another doctor (dr. hadala) called a few hours later with a full description of the surgery plan, the summary being that they hoped to just have to go through the abdomen and manipulate the object out without going into the intestine. we then received a call when the surgery began and how long we could expect it to go for. after about an hour dr. rogers called to say that all went well and they were able to manipulate the intestine by adding more fluids; thereby helping the object to proceed through to the colon. they then were able to pull the object completely out: a clump of dry fecal material with what looked like blue ropey fabric. 

i'm mystified! i have no idea what she could have swallowed to cause such problems. knowing the center, we'll probably receive the object in a heavy duty plastic bag (i saw someone yesterday in the waiting room being handed such a bag, and we received one when pluto ate the sweatshirt lace. it was in 2019 and you can read about that particular saga here. there's also a photo of the plastic bag with the offending shirt lace. not a pretty sight.)

i just received another call from another doctor (lang) saying that she was with zuzu who was coming off the anesthesia well and was happy to be getting attention. they were going to try giving her a little bit of food, and we should be getting another call in the morning around 10:30. they will be testing to make sure her kidneys are fine since her numbers were a little elevated. if all is good, we'll be able to bring her home tomorrow.
