at the vet

i took zuzu to the vet this afternoon as she still wasn't feeling well. i started out with just her in the carrier but only made it halfway up the block as she was acting very distressed - meowing incessantly with her ears pushed back . . she looked very unhappy. i turned around and went back upstairs and added cricket to the carrier . . and then made it all the way to the vet with not a peep from either one of them. in the above photo you can see cricket is listening at the door and investigating to see if he can open it. zuzu had been taken out for an x-ray. after she was returned, i sat and knitted on a sock while they roamed around the exam room. when the vet returned with the results, we found out that she has an obstruction in her intestine, quite close to the colon. the radiologist thought she might be able to pass it out with some fluids. so she received some fluids and we're hoping that she might pass it out tonight. we'll take her in again tomorrow morning at 7:30. i'm quite anxious, but i'll say a little prayer that all will be well.

    1. Thank you so much Eva. She ate something that was too large . . only this evening did Chanda and I realize it might be the silicone lids we had a number of months ago that were used for covering glass food container jars :( We had found one with a large bite taken out of it. Cricket had thrown a piece up and I thought he was the only one who found them enticing, but maybe she did too. We no longer keep any silicone around. I think the flavor of the food stays on them, and the cats find it comforting and enticing to chew on . . so crazy! I'll keep you posted.

    2. Oh no, that is crazy! When we did the maple syrup walk yesterday, Conrad told us that red squirrels like to chew the rubber/plastic tubing because they like the taste! He also said they really like things that have been cleaned with bleach. That is also crazy. I do hope she will be able to recover soon. You must be very anxious. Sending you hugs!

    3. Thank you Eva! I actually feel bad for these animals that like objects and liquids we make that aren't good for them!

    4. They should have more common sense! I always find it odd that the don't instinctively know what is bad for them.
