the end of may
the fragrant air is full of down,
of floating, fleecy things
from some forgotten fairy town
where all the folk wear wings.
or else the snowflakes, soft arrayed
in dainty suits of lace,
have ventured back in masquerade,
spring's festival to grace.
or these, perchance, are fleets of fluff,
laden with rainbow seeds,
that count their cargo rich enough
though all its wealth be weeds.
or come they from the golden trees,
where dancing blossoms were,
that now are drifting on the breeze,
sweet ghosts of gossamer?

i've been wanting to visit the new playground with kendall and aurélien at pier 26 since january when it opened. we finally went today, but i don't have any photos as it was so crowded we did not stay long. we moved to the pier 25 playground which had more shade and less people. you can read about the large sturgeon sculpture that is getting so much attention here. it's beautifully built with smooth wood and bright colors; one just needs to find a quieter time to visit! a cold day in january and february probably would have been good!
the sprinklers were being renovated so the water fountain filled in for making wet sand . .
and for creating waterfalls on climbing rocks . .
it's pleasant walking along the boardwalk as the plants and wood muffle the street noise.
we also discovered what looked like wild raspberries . .
and poufy balls of allium flowers . .
it was a warm day . . it went up to 82. greg had gone uptown to moma (museum of modern art) but called me to say he was heading home . .
so we met back in the neighborhood, said good bye to kendall and aurélien and had a bite to eat at tavern on jane as they had their tables out and the street was closed off to cars.
it was peaceful sitting in the shade watching the neighbors water their plants.
