i spent a fun afternoon with our neighbor victoria, talking and helping her figure out if she should fly back this evening, as paris is supposed to be having a general strike starting at midnight. after being reassured by the airline that the plane wouldn't be stuck circling paris tomorrow afternoon when arriving, she decided that all systems were go. we helped her down the stairs with her suitcases (they were rather heavy as she's returning with several photo albums and film reels from past projects) and into the waiting car service. bon voyage, victoria! good luck with the film editing!

Well, they are always on strike in Paris. It is a national pastime.
ReplyDeleteI remember Italy having many strikes years ago. I wonder if they still do.
DeleteThey just have chaos :). My friend Sybille, who lives in the German speaking part of Italy, always complains about the Italian Italians.
DeleteOh, that's funny! Two of my favorite books are by Tim Parks, Italian Neighbors and An Italian Education. He's English and married an Italian woman and they raised their family in Italy. He tells a story about how he knew he had finally soaked up the Italian "persona" when a German speaking woman observed him with his kids at a northern Italian ski resort and shook her head while muttering "Italienisch," (or something to that effect). It was one of my favorite anecdotes.
DeleteThat is funny! He must have gotten very good at his being Italian.
