this is the tea i've been enjoying each morning. it's a blend of black tea, rosehips, hibiscus and rose petals (i love rose petals!). it's very aromatic and has a sweetness that is tempered by just the right amount of bitter black tea leaves.
it came in a package about a week ago from eva!
she sent a beautiful card made by her cousin, along with the tea and a santa barbara post card and map.
i enjoyed showing the girls where i used to live in santa barbara: just above the reservoir where gibraltar road angles up from mountain drive. i could almost smell the pepper and eucalyptus trees! thank you, eva.
back in the present time now: we've been taking care of minerva as her owner is visiting prince edward island and basking in sun and sea air by the anne of green gables house.
our friend camille has been helping too so minerva has had plenty of company.
and since it's summer our friend clyde is back in town . .
he's been trying to see several free dance concerts around town, but when he arrives at the stated venue, they aren't there! he's beginning to wonder if it's them . . or him . . !? after talking and sharing some watermelon with us he left to see a jazz band at pier 45 . . thankfully they were there!
today i finally made the no-bake chocolate almond oat bars that i found on the martha stewart website and which you can see here. i melted a stick of butter with a cup of almond butter and 1/3 of a cup of honey. then i added 6 ounces of bittersweet chocolate, 2 cups of rolled oats, 1/2 cup of toasted almonds, and 3/4 cup of dried cherries (they actually use raisins), and a pinch of sea salt.
then i spread it in a pan that was buttered and covered with parchment paper and it's now sitting overnight in the refrigerator. in the morning i'll take it out and cut it into squares and hope that it's not too hot tomorrow to melt the chocolate! we'll be driving out to long island to work on my parents' house for saturday and sunday, so this will be a snack along with several hard boiled eggs.
i also finally made the pickles! (morgana is steaming her sinuses with eucalyptus leaves. they smell so good, so refreshing and healthy! i sat over the steam for several minutes too).
they'll sit on the counter for about four to five days and then i'll put them in the refrigerator and probably eat them within a week. i was going to make more but i ran out of garlic.

A bit of California in NYC :). I am so glad you liked my package. The bars look good, I do hope they will not melt. I always forbid chocolate in the car in the summer, but you children are much bigger. . . Those pickles look interesting. Did you put cloves in the jars? No dill? And Camille's hair is really long! Did not she try out for some ballet position? Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought it was her. I hope Morgana will get healthy soon. Maybe there was some virus on the plane. They never let in fresh air. Good luck with the house work. Peter worked in the yard this afternoon and found a huge snake! It was alive and watching him. We have never ever seen such a big one around here. There are quite a few snakes and ants in our yard this year, very strange.
ReplyDeleteWow, I wonder if the snake was an escaped pet?
DeleteUnfortunately, Morgana is still coughing but it does sound a little better. We're doing a homeopathic remedy now and she's been trying to take it easy . . though she does have energy . . it's not like she's always tired and feeling ill. It's strange.
No cloves in the pickles, but I should try that next time :)
How is Morgana doing? She must be well by now.
DeleteI hope it was not an escaped pet! That thought never occurred to us.
DeleteFlora saw the picture and said that she could smell the tea (Es riecht nach Tee).
ReplyDeleteYes, it has such a lovely aroma!
