we always enjoy being at my sister and brother-in-law's house, not just because they're so fun to be with . . but because of their beautiful trees!

a number of years ago they extended the deck along the back of their house and now one can walk out from the living room/dining room to what feels like a treehouse to me. we like to read and knit out there.

toby likes it also . . as long as we don't bother her too much.

 

my latest knitting project: summer scarf pattern with quince's linen sparrow yarn in "blue spruce."

morgana cooked up a maranara sauce one night (the night nonno returned home from the hospital), even though she couldn't eat it herself (she's allergic to tomatoes these days).

towards the end of our visit nonno was feeling better and played "may i" again with us.

my brother-in-law's family is norwegian and my sister has had this book on her shelf for awhile now. it's one of our favorites, along with the movie i remember mama (directed by george stevens and starring irene dunne).

morgana reading what the world eats . . we thought the family from guatamala ate the most healthfully.

chanda browsing the aisles at my sister's library. we found some interesting books this summer: prairie school by lois lenski, and portrait of a farm family by raymond bial.

browsing the aisles at stop and shop . . and finding their $2.00 laundry detergent interesting in that it wasn't priced at $1.99.

swimming in the lake is always one of my favorite connecticut activities . .
