we've been apple picking out at montauk, and visiting with my cousin who came in from arizona. we've been baking apple pies and apple crumble, going to dance classes and working on math, grammar, languages, poetry, etc. i've been working a few days out of the week at a friend's restaurant which has cut into a lot of computer time. i'm hoping that will stop soon, and i'll be able to catch up better. we get cool days, and then it turns humid again, like today. our weather is changing. i feel like it's becoming more tropical . . more and more humid, like florida. all of us like crisp, autumn air! the humid days take getting used to.by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)
