by day the blue will pale down into white where it touches the white of the land, after sunset it has a new circumference-orange, melting upwards into tenderest purple. but the core of blue persists, and so it is by night. then the stars hang like lamps from the immense vault. the distance between the vault and them is as nothing to the distance behind them, and that farther distance, though beyond colour, last freed itself from blue. -e.m. forster (a passage to india)

visitors on a cold and wintry night
it was the coldest night we've had so far and in typical amtrak fashion their train was over an hour late, but charlotte and jonathan have made it to the big apple and we're looking forward to a fun week.
Charlotte and Chanda look a bit similar. Their names even start with the same letters. And Jonathan looks so tall! Did he grow on the train?
Flora sends her love. She was waiting for Jonathan to come back from his chemistry class this morning, but then realized that he was not coming because he was gone. She misses him.
Enjoy your week, it is quite unpleasant here, grey, windy, snowy, and cold. Just finished teaching my class, the only one this week. Peter has two more today and several tomorrow.
I think she really likes to talk with Jonathan. They are both auditory children, all the others are visual children. Jonathan was my big talker, when he was little, now he does not talk so much anymore, only when he can discuss things. He loves discussions, but I don't. Flora is also a little chatter box, too much for my taste sometimes.
Time for bed. I am kind of waiting for Julius to come back in. Ah, there he is. I did not want him to spend the night outside. It is -4 degrees Celsius right now.
